Walk

Gait ChartHooves lift off and contact the ground at separate intervals. The beat is an even 1-2-3-4. Rider moves from front to rear and the horses actions do not seem active like in some of the other gaits. The running walk is also a common gait in Gaited Morgans.

Running Walk

Running WalkWill appear like a faster walk. The hooves sit down in an even 1-2-3-4 beat. Again this gait moves the rider a little from front to rear, but there is no feel of up and down action of the rear of the horse. The still at the right shows the Gaited Morgan stallion Silvershoe Highlander with legs marked to show positions of leg during one sequence in the running walk.
